ESO'S 60TH BIRTHDAY IN PARIS
A day to celebrate ESO's 60th anniversary.
The European Southern Observatory (ESO) was created on October 5, 1962 by 5 founding member states: Germany, Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Sweden. It now has 16 members, a strategic partner and a host country for the astronomical sites. ESO has been very successful and has become the first optical observatory in the world. A major player in astronomy, ESO is also an important partner for industrial development and innovation. An event was organized in Paris, on November 3, 2022, to celebrate the anniversary with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. The Director General of ESO and the President of the Council were present. Scientists involved in the success and future of ESO, as well as companies who contribute to the observatory's projects and participate in the technological innovations contributed to the conference. The event took place at the Paris Institute of Astrophysics and at the Paris Observatory with the support of CNRS/INSU.
