The internal users can borrow documents that are not part of our collection. The library has signed an agreement with the two libraries of The Paris Observatory.
The ILL service is reserved to the internal users. It supplies items (books, reports, theses, photocopied articles) which are not available at the library.
The request of an ILL is transmitted and managed through the library.
The library subsidizes the cost of interlibrary loan.
How long does it take to receive the document ? It all depends on the type of document you've requested:
- Photocopied articles normally arrive within one to two weeks;
- Books normally arrive within two to three weeks.
Users will be automatically notified by phone or by email when the document has arrived.
The items received can be taken on loan or consulted in the reading room and the borrowing periods may vary depending on the type of document or the library. Articles of journals, congress or chapters of book are delivered via copies.
N.B.: It is important to note that, the ILL service is not extendable between Parisian libraries. When the item you need is available in a Parisian library, you must consult it on site.
N.B.: The ILL service will not purchase items if this is the only means of acquiring them, but will provide the user with the vendor's contact details.
