I will review recent progress on our understanding of Lyman-alpha emitters (LAE) and related objects such as Lyman Break Galaxies (LBG) and Lyman-alpha blobs, concerning in particular their nature, stellar populations, masses, ISM properties, dust content etc. and possible connections between these different galaxy populations.
The review will in particular highligh new insight gained from multi-wavelength observations and detailed spectroscopy and from detailed stellar populations and Lya radiation transfer modeling.
