« The cosmic evolution of the galaxy-halo relation under a magnifying glass » |
Marko Shuntov |
The galaxy-halo relation refers to the distribution of the properties of galaxies and the dark matter halos which host them. Of particular interest is the relation between galaxy stellar mass and the halo mass (stellar-to-halo mass relation, or SHMR) that once measured can constrain galaxy growth and quenching mechanisms. The evolution of this relation and its physical implications on galaxy growth with cosmic time are poorly understood. Furthermore, while the host halo mass is the primary driver of galaxy properties, the anisotropic environment (the cosmic web) has proven to also contribute, and efforts are being directed towards disentangling the effects of the two. In this edition of the YMCA, I will show you how we can study the cosmic evolution of SHMR, and how can we disentangle the effects of the cosmic web environment. I will also focus on a novel probe that we're developing for this purpose: weak lensing magnification -- how can we measure it, how can we model it and what can it teach us about the galaxy-halo relation. |
