« Producing Primordial Black Holes from Inflation: Alleviating Fine-Tuning with Multifield Dynamics » |
David Kaiser |
Primordial black holes (PBHs) present an intriguing candidate for dark matter, as well as offering the possibility of seeding what would evolve into the supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxies. Several mechanisms have been identified in the context of early-universe inflation by which a spike at short length-scales could arise in the power spectrum of primordial curvature perturbations, which in turn would induce gravitational collapse and the formation of a population of PBHs soon after inflation. Yet many of the best-known single-field constructions to produce PBHs rely upon extreme fine-tuning of one or more parameters. In this talk I will describe a simple multifield construction that generically alleviates such fine-tuning, while producing PBHs and preserving the close fit with observations of the cosmic microwave background. |
