Clusters of galaxies sit at a unique place in the Universe's hierarchy : they are the most massive virialised structures forming the nodes of the cosmic web. Originating from the highest peaks in the initial cosmic density field, their abundance is heavily sensitive to the underlying cosmology.
However, their predictive power is limited especially by our ability to accurately measure their mass. Well-calibrated scaling relations between observable properties and the total cluster masses are crucial ingredients for studies that aim to constrain cosmological parameters. It is of key importance to understand both physical processes that give rise to these relations and interpret any scatter. Indeed, properties of the intracluster medium are affected by cosmic assembly and astrophysical processes during cluster formation (such as gravitational heating, radiative cooling, stellar and AGN feedback).
Hydrodynamical codes coupled to N-body techniques are the most advanced tools to describe such complex processes as well as their impact on the assembly history of cosmic structures. During this seminar, I will present recent results of high-resolution cosmological numerical simulations of galaxy clusters and improvements on used subgrid models. I will show the good agreement with a range of observed scaling relations while revealing a non-negligible mass bias in observed samples.
