In the context of galaxy formation, it is often assumed that the only relevant parameters that drive galaxy properties are the dark matter halo mass and the local environment. In this talk I will revisit these assumptions and present how the large scale environment influences galaxy formation using a combination of theoretical models and numerical simulations.
