« Intermediate mass black holes: A case study of a Milky Way globular cluster using HST, Gaia and VLT » |

When the LIGO first detected gravitational waves coming from a stellar mass black hole merger and later on the Event Horizon Telescope released the first image of the supermassive black hole in M87, astronomers had the most compelling evidences about the existence of those intriguing and particular objects even though black holes have been treated as more than a theoretical object for a considerable amount of time. Nevertheless, there is still one class of black holes that shades our understanding about them, and many other areas of galactic evolution: Intermediate mass black holes (IMBH). I will talk about how and where astronomers usually look for these sources. This talk will focus on a case study of a Milky Way globular cluster using HST, Gaia and VLT data, the mass-modelling techniques to probe IMBH, my latest results and the many possibilities that IMBH provide to galaxy evolution astronomy. |
