The Effective Field Theory (EFT) approach is currently used to understand a broad class of phenomena, from particle physics to condensed matter. The description of a system through the lowest dimension operators compatible with its symmetries is particularly powerful as it allows to parametrize the ignorance about high energy/small scale effects in terms of invariant operators. After giving a general introduction to EFT methods, we show how it can be employed to perform calculations within the Post-Newtonian (PN) framework and we show the application to the determination of the Hamiltonian of a gravitationally bound binary system. We show how we reproduced the third PN order dynamics by means of an automatized algorithm and our progress towards the computation of the fourth PN order Hamiltonian.
