« GBAR, a test of the Weak Equivalence Principle with Antihydrogen » |
Pascal Debu |
GBAR ("Gravitational Behaviour of Antihydrogen at Rest") is an experiment at CERN which aims at measuring the terrestrial gravitational acceleration of ultra-cold antihydrogen with a precision of 1 % in a first stage. This would be the first direct test of the Weak Equivalence Principle with antimatter. The principle of the experiment is based on the original idea of J. Walz and T. Hänsch to first produce and cool the positive antihydrogen ion before producing the ultra-cold antihydrogen atom. After a discussion of the motivation of the experiment, the GBAR experimental techniques and status will be described. |
