« Random walks in the sky: improving analytical models of Large Scale Structure » |
Marcello Musso |
I will present recent developments of the analytical methods to predict
abundance and clustering of Large Scale structures. I will review the so-called excursion set (aka extended Press-Schechter) approach for the halo mass function, and its extensions to include halo accretion rates and formation times. I will show how, contrarily to the common belief, a physically sound choice of the smoothing filter (a key ingredient of this approach) leads to simple - yet remarkably accurate and self-consistent - analytical predictions. Moreover, this choice naturally introduces correlations of the secondary halo properties (like accretion history and concenctration) with the environment, providing an ideal framework for the theoretical study of assembly bias, and a crucial ingredient on the road to precision cosmology |
