« A different perspective on the Harrison-Zeldovich spectrum » |
Michael JOYCE |
I will discuss the Harrison-Zeldovich (or scale-invariant) spectrum, which characterises the primordial density perturbations in standard cosmological models, from the perspective of correlated systems encountered in statistical physics. The very particular properties of systems with such correlations will be illustrated with examples, and possible applications in cosmology (to N-body simulation) described. This perspective leads naturally to a reconsideration of arguments concerning the physics required to generate such a spectrum, and in particular of the constraints imposed by causality. Using exactly calculable models in one and three dimensions, I will show that there are various loopholes in these arguments, and will discuss how they might be exploited in cosmological model building. |
