« How phase transitions induce classical behaviour » |
Ray Rivers |
Phase transitions, ubiquitous in the early universe, are characterised by a natural separation of the theory into a system (the order parameter) and its environment (the rest of the modes). Moreover, those modes which drive the field ordering are unstable. The former separation naturally leads to diagonalisation of the density matrix, while the latter instabilities lead to classical correlations. Taken together these constitute the onset of classical behaviour. |
