« Pathways and deadends for forming massive black holes »

John Regan

Super Massive Black Holes at the edge of the observable Universe pose a clear challenge to our understanding of early structure formation.
Apart from the observations of the quasars themselves however, we have little observational guidance. I will discuss several theoretical models for
forming massive black holes which may hold the key to understanding the emergence of a super massive black hole population in the early Universe.
I will also discuss some pathways that appear to be unsuitable and the implications of such scenarios.
