« Spinning a cosmic spiderweb » |
Mark Neyrinck |
Artists and scientists have noted the visual similarity between the cosmic web and other networks in nature. I will discuss a rigorous physical correspondence between the cosmic web, in a formalism called the adhesion model, and architectural structures known as spiderwebs (networks of strands that can exist entirely in tension). The correspondence extends also to origami tessellations, with some additional physical significance. I will also discuss how these ideas might be used for cosmological tests, and (referencing the first word of the title) to understand galaxy spins in the cosmic web. |
