"Towards a new era in the radio detection of air showers: A surface radio array for IceCube to probe the Galactic Center for PeVatrons"

The Galactic center is visible from the South Pole throughout the year, at an inclination of 61o. It is interesting to search for gamma rays from this region, which have an energy of a few PeV. This can validate the existence of a PeVatron at the center of our galaxy. Such gamma rays arriving at the South Pole will produce inclined air showers in the atmosphere. Since radio emission of inclined showers leaves a huge footprint on the earth, the detection of such events can be possible using the radio technique. Radio detection of air showers has already proven to be an effective method for extracting information of air showers and their properties. Existing experiments measuring such air showers mostly operate in the frequency range of 30-80 MHz, and have successfully measured cosmic rays with energies well above tens of PeV. In this talk, I will present the recent results which show how the optimization of the frequency range of operation can enable us to improve the signal-to-noise ratio, and thereby lower the energy threshold of detection.
