« Gravitational Wave Astronomy : a new window on the Universe »

Ed Porter

The recent detection of gravitational waves from binary black hole mergers during Advanced LIGO’s first scientific run has started a new era of multi-messenger astronomy. In this presentation, I will review the characteristics of the detected sources, and discuss the implications of their detections on
astrophysics and fundamental physics. I will also discuss plans for future 3G ground-based detectors such as Einstein Telescope/Cosmic Explorer, and the ESA L3 space-based observatory LISA.
