« The cosmic spin evolution of early-type galaxies » |
Sukyoung Yi |
In the LCDM universe, frequent mergers turn late-type galaxies into early-type galaxies, providing an explanation to the classical morphology-spin relation of galaxies. However, according to the recent IFU observations, early-type galaxies show a much larger variety of rotation properties, and in fact, slow rotating early type galaxies are rare. We attempt to find the origin of the present-day galaxy spin in hydrodynamic simulations. We use the Horizon-AGN simulation and YZiCS cluster zoom-in simulation to closely monitor galaxy spin evolution in various environments. We indeed found the majority of morphologically early-type model galaxies rotating fast, just as observed. I present the history of galaxy spin evolution. I will show that much more than just mergers is behind the cosmic galaxy spin evolution. |
