« Galaxy kinematics over the last 10 Gyr » |
Thierry Contini |
Gas kinematics of massive galaxies is now relatively well sampled up to redshift z~3, but little is known about the dynamics of lower mass (log(M?) = 10) galaxies. I will present the last results obtained with MUSE, a powerful and unique instrument for in-depth studies of this galaxy population at significant look-back times. I will focus on the analysis of the deepest observations obtained so far with MUSE in HST deep fields (HDFS and HUDF), enabling to unveil, for the first time, the stellar kinematics of galaxies at intermediate redshifts. Together with the gas kinematics obtained over a broader redshift range and for a larger sample, these new observations shed light on the evolution of disks angular momentum over cosmic time, a key ingredient in galaxy evolution models. |
