« Metal-poor starburst galaxies as local analogs of proto-galaxies » |
Polychronis Papaderos |
Extremely metal-deficient [12 + log(O/H) < 7.6] starburst galaxies in the local Universe are precious laboratories of extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology, permitting spatially resolved studies of the galaxy assembly history under chemical conditions approaching those in the early Universe. This seminar will provide an overview on the structural, morphological and evolutionary characteristics of metal-poor starburst galaxies, and address the significant opportunities these systems offer for advancing our understanding of the mechanisms facilitating the escape of Lyman continuum radiation from high-redshift proto-galaxies.
