« Energetic particles and Cosmic Rays in young stellar objects » |
Alexandre Marcowith |
Young stars are active objects which harbor intense magnetic activity and show the presence of strong jets in a likely connection with matter accretion towards the star. The magnetic and kinetic energy involved in these processes can be partly converted into supra-thermal energetic particles at different acceleration sites by different acceleration mechanisms. Alternatively, young stars are subject to wind-modulated-cosmic-ray irradiation.
In this short review I will discuss the following question: why it is of scientific interest now to address the possible impact of these particles over the star-disk-jet dynamical system? I will first review observational evidences of particle acceleration in these objects. Then, I will focus on two particular zones where one should expect such an acceleration to occur. I will show why we need an in-situ accelerated component to explain these observations, and not only rely on the effect of background cosmic rays. |
