« Galaxies, clusters, and superclusters: properties and evolution » |
Maret Einasto |
In this talk, I will introduce our studies of the dynamical properties, connectivity, and evolution of galaxies and clusters in rich superclusters in the local and distant Universe, as the Corona Borealis and A2142 superclusters, and the BOSS Great Wall at redshift z~0.5. The richest clusters in local superclusters are surrounded by the regions of influence which passed turnaround and started to collapse at redshift approximately z=0.4. The richest clusters in the Corona Borealis will merge in the future to form one of the most massive system in the local Universe. The BOSS Great Wall superclusters may fall apart during evolution. Galaxies with very old stellar populations lie not only in the central parts of clusters and groups in superclusters, but also in the poorest groups in the low-density regions between superclusters (supercluster cocoons or voids). Our studies shows how the past, present, and future evolution of galaxies and galaxy systems – groups and clusters are intertwined in the cosmic web. |
