Résumé / Abstract Seminaire_IAP
« Four decades of debates on the nature of dark matter in galaxies »

Benoît Famaey
Obs. Astron. Strasbourg (Strasbourg, France)

In this talk, we review the observational evidence for mass discrepancies in galaxies, and highlight why the intimate connection between their baryonic surface density and their total gravitational field still poses fine-tuning issues if dark matter is behaving as expected in LCDM. We discuss possible alternatives to LCDM that could ease these issues, and show why none has managed (yet) to jointly solve this problem and maintain all other LCDM successes on larger scales.
