« Light to Mass Variations with Environment » |
Brent Tully |
There is now good evidence that there are order of magnitude variations in the ratio of blue star light to mass in galaxy cluster scale halos. The ratio of light to mass reaches a maximum for halos in the mass range 10^12 to 10^13 solar masses. There is progressively less light per unit mass in more massive and more dynamically evolved cluster halos. For halos below 10^12 suns, it seems there is an abrupt cutoff. Lower mass halos are mostly dark. |
