« Perspectives pour la Science spatiale en Europe » |
David Southwood |
ESA was created 30 years ago. It has always had a scientific programme that was mandatory. Will there always be such a programme at the centre of European space activities? Why is it important for Europe to be at the forefront of space science in the future? One must be able to answer. And what should the science be? Since 1985, every ten years ESA has made a survey of the community to identify long-term targets for the programme. The process for 2004/5 is almost complete. For the ten years 2015-2025 151 ideas for scientific themes were received; no more than ten spacecraft will be launched. How does one reduce, sort and finally choose? |
