Résumé / Abstract Seminaire_IAP
« Growing black holes in computer simulations »

Andrea Cattaneo

I have investigated a scenario in which bulges and supermassive black holes form simultaneously through mergers and bar instabilities. This study has been conducted with two techniques. The first one is to include black hole acccretion in semi-analytic models of galaxy formation. For this purpose I have used GalICS (Galaxies In Cosmological Simulations), the galaxy formation model developed at the IAP, which combines N-body simulations for the dark matter and a semi-analytic approach to the baryons. The second technique is to use smoothed-particle-hydrodynamics simulations of galaxy mergers and to develop post-treatment routines computing colours and extinction by loading stellar population synthesis and dust models. In discussing the results of this articulated study, I shall put emphasis on properties of quasar hosts and on the issue of obscured AGN.
