« Dust in Supernovae » |
John Danziger |
A general overview of supernovae of all types will be presented with emphasis on observational aspects. The differences between core-collapse and thermonuclear SNe will be highlighted. Since dust exists in copious quantities in our Galaxy and seems to exist in luminous galaxies at cosmological distances, supernovae have been proposed as major sites of dust formation. The current evidence for dust formation in supernovae will be reviewed in attempt to address the question of the origin of dust. |
