« The Large Scale Structure of the Inter-Galactic Medium »

The gaseous content of the moderate density IGM is an honest tracer of the mass density fluctuations on large scales. The neutral component of the IGM is probed by the absorption features it imprints on QSO spectra. Free electrons in the dominant ionized component interact with photons of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) causing measurable secondary anisotropies in maps of CMB temperature fluctuations. I will review the physical properties of the IGM and describe how to extract cosmological information from absorption features in QSO spectra and from maps of the CMB.
