« Clusters of Galaxies: How to Detect them, Prospects for Estimating the Mass Function » |
Reinaldo de Carvalho |
We have recently completed a new cluster survey utilizing the Digitized Second Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (DPOSS). This survey, the Northern Sky Optical Cluster Survey, covers ~10,000 square degrees, and contains nearly 20,000 candidate galaxy clusters out to z~0.3. The catalog has extremely well characterized completeness functions in both redshift and richness, allowing us to select physically distinct subsamples for follow-up studies. We are undertaking an extensive spectroscopic campaign to obtain dynamical masses for a volume and mass limited sample of clusters, to construct the cluster mass function at z=0.1-0.2. In this talk I will cover most of the issues related to the building up of this new cluster catalog and discuss the future prospects. |
