« Developments at the AAO - Europe's «Other» Southern Observatory » |
Chris Tinney |
The AAO's future is now assured through to at least 2010. Its instrument suite will see United Kingdom, Australian and (through the OPTICON program) EU astronomers positioned to carry out a range of innovative scientific programs using some unique facilities like AAOmega (the successor to 2dF), IRIS2 (an 8' near infrared imager and spectrograph) and UCLES (currently producing the world's most precise velocities for planet searching). I'll review some recent science results, and highlight the prospects for new science now available to European astronomers. |
