Various approaches to quantum gravity suggest the possibility that Lorentz symmetry is broken. While the theoretical basis of this suggestion remains debatable, observational tests of it have been rapidly advancing. Lorentz violation suppressed by the ratio of particle energy to Planck energy is nearly ruled out, and prospects for decisive constraints at the next order are good.
