TANGUY MARCHAND 1st PRIZE-WINNER IN THE “5 MINUTES POUR MA THÈSE” (“5 minutes for my PhD”) CONTEST
During the science festival “Festival des 2 infinis” (“Festival of the 2 infinities”), organized by the “Association Française d'Astronomie” (“French astronomy society”), Tanguy Marchand - a second year PhD student under the supervision of Luc Blanchet and David Langlois (APC) - won the 1st prize in the “5 minutes pour ma thèse” (“5 minutes for my PhD”) contest.
Wednesday, 19th of October, in an auditorium of the University Pierre et Marie Curie, Tanguy Marchand presented the subject of his PhD to an audience of high-school students. In this outreach exercise, he had 5 minutes to explain how “post-Newtonian” theory can predict with high accuracy the gravitational waves emitted by the merging of two black holes. Following his presentation, a jury composed of two researchers, an expert in scientific outreach and a member of the Association Française d'Astronomie decided to award him the first prize.
