L'Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris actively participates in the course program of the "Astronomie Astrophysique d'Ile-de-France" Doctoral School (ED 127). The courses proposed by the IAP researchers cover various fields of expertise of the institute, such as extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology, general relativity, etc. Some courses are also focused on important methods for astrophysicists (introduction to the time allocation proposals on a large telescope, data processing, Bayesian analysis, etc.). This academic training is common to the Observatoire de Paris, Sorbonne Université, Université Paris Cité, Université Paris-Saclay and Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ). Other partners are the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS), Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne, ENSG-Géomatique and the CEA's direction of Matter and Universe.
Astronomers, lecturers and professors from the institute also participate in the teaching of the Physique en Ile de France ("Physics in Ile-de-France") Doctoral School (ED 564 PIF).
The doctoral academic training is for students who are a year or two into their thesis. Its objective is to improve doctors’ integration into the professional world by initiating them or adding to their knowledge of theories, methods and highly specialized techniques. This enables them to improve their professional profile either as researchers, or in fact, any other career.
The post-Masters doctoral training course offers: 1) introductory classes are taken during a specific week (30 hours per class), which for the most part take place in labs dedicated to this research; 2) in depth classes on a topic for half a week (15 hours), with an initiation to subject-related specific techniques; 3) schools, workshops or public conference, for developing a broader perspective.
